- In 2013 the Cambodian population reached 15,135,169 persons, 270,523 persons more than 2012.
- 51.20 % of Cambodians are girls and women (7,749,493) and the male population is 48.79 % (7,385,676 boys and men.)
- The Cambodian population density is moderate: 84 persons per square kilometer.
- The real Cambodian city by number of population (more than 750,000 persons) is Phnom Penh.
- The other main cities out of Phnom Penh in order of population are Battambang, Siem Reap, Ta Kmau and Kampong Cham.
Phnom Penh still being the only real urban conglomerate of Cambodia with a population of 2,2 million persons. In 2008 it was 1.9 million, meaning an increase of 30,000 persons in the space of 7 years – the entire population of Kep Province – with an annual growth of 4%. If Cambodia has a moderate density of 84 persons per square kilometer, it is not the same in Phnom Penh with 5,358 persons per sq km. The boundaries of the city has been also modified in four stages by adding territory of Kandal, the province that surrounds the capital entirely: Dangkor District, creation of Khan Russey Keo, integration of 4 villages from Kanthork Commune and 20 communes from 5 districts of Kandal (Phnom Penh Municipality, 2014)
Battambang. A miner, Chea Somieng, 29, died when the land he was digging with other 3, sank, falling several meters inside of what could be an old well in Chumka Srav Village, Barang Chalak Commune, Phnom Prik District, Battambang Province, near the border with Thailand. Somieng went to look for gold with other three miners at the yard of the house of Mr. Phiek Ieth last Saturday afternoon. According to the report of Sok Sothoat, chief of the Distrital police, the incident happened at 4:30 PM. His companions tried to take him out, but the humidity of the land made the process slow and they could recover only the body of Somieng at 11 PM. Mining is normally an unregulated activity in Cambodia performed without security measures.

Battambang. In an open hall, which was once the entirety of Vithayalai Don Bosco Battambang, the first Official Graduation Ceremony took place on the 9th of August 2013, and was attended by the schools staff and students, as well as the students’ parents. Invited to attend and take part in the ceremony, having arrived from Phnom Penh the day before, were Fr. Cef Ledesma and Fr. Leo Ochoa. Fr. Battambang. It is common to see several constructions sites in modern Cambodia. It is as the former war destruction is already over and everyone is building something to recover the lost time. Unfortunately, the building of schools, hospitals and community areas is much less than the fever for hotels, restaurants, casinos and resorts. Unemployed young people find easily jobs in construction this time, but in many occasions many of those workers are as young as 7 and 10 years old.
