Official visit to journalists’ school in Sihanoukville

Sihanoukville. HE Ao Saren, Director of the Sihanouk Province Department of Information, paid a visit to the Social Communication and Journalism Section of the Don Bosco Technical School yesterday (07.02.2014) with all his team, including official media representatives for press, radio and television. The official was welcomed by Fr. Samnang (Albeiro Rodas), Fr. Eugene Xalxo, Don Bosco Sihanoukville Headmaster Mr. Ouch Sambo, Social Communication Manager King Mao, teachers, volunteers and students.

Fr. Samnang, the creator of the Social Communication and Journalism Sections of Sihanoukville and Kep, showed the different areas of the program and the historical development of the project since 2007, explaining why it is called “Social Communication” to form skillful personnel for media, social work and information with a social ideal for development. “Don Bosco does not want only experts, but also good citizens,” he said.

HE Ao Saren thanked Don Bosco for providing to Cambodian youth the opportunity to get more skills for the Cambodian development. Knowing that most students of social communication go to work in Phnom Penh after they graduated from Don Bosco, he suggested a working together that the new communicators remain in the Province that is one of the most importants of the Kingdom for being an international sea port and a tourist destination. “I propose that these students could get training in our own areas of the Department of Information, radio, television, web pages, so they remain also in the Province, because this school of journalism is in this Province.”

The official also offered to share more information in order to improve the qualification of studies, especially making emphasis that the students know the Cambodian laws on information and media: “I invite you to deep very much in your studies, so when you engage in a media or organization, you have always that responsible attitude to work for the best of society through the means of information,” he said to the students.
