Cambodia and Thailand agree to restart dialog over military pull-out from Preah Vihea area

Phnom Penh. Cambodian and Thai troops will pull-out as soon as possible, announced General Tea Banh, the Khmer Defense Minister on Wednesday in this capital. They will follow the International Court of Justice‘s ruling that created a provisional demilitarized zone around the Hindu temple, while compelling both countries to stop military aggression. The millennial compound, built by the Khmer King Suryavarman I (r. 1010-1050) and dedicated to Shiva, is located on Cambodian sovereignty, but both countries claim 4.6 square kilometers around it. It created military clashes early this year.

    Hi Albeiro,
I was surprised to read your ‘egreement blog’ about a withdrawal of troups…
just yesterday C.Daily quoted Gen. Banh:
“Instead of announcing a much-anticipated plan for withdrawal , though, Gen. Banh said the pair had agreed instead to set up a ‘joint working group’ that would continue discussing how to implement the court’s order.
And… “instead they agreed to one’ comprising Cambodia, Thai and Indonesian observers’.

Thai side also has to ask Council of Ministers and Ntl. Assembly first…

As you can see I would be cautious in this difficult matter since internal policy in Thailand plays an unpredictable role.
    Merry Christmas
    Arjay.

Ps: one you promised to visit our little social entrepreneurship in Chambok next Kirirom…
    I think, you just forgot.

Dear Arjay, you are completely right (here the official statement.) I corrected the title to Cambodia and Thailand agree to restart dialog over military pull-out from Preah Vihea area. I am sorry about my unaccomplished promised. I will fulfill it. Regards, Albeiro R.
